WIN '11 EVENTS
Witherspoon Silver Anniversary

Welcome to the Witherspoon Institute's Silver Anniversay.  We are celebrating 5 years!   The WIN academic season is April 2 – December 18, 2011.  Two sessions will be held this season.  Each session includes a formal event and an ending presentation. Ballroom dance lessons will include the Tango, the Charleston and the Waltz each session.  The first session is an introduction.  The second session advances dance skills learned in session one.  You may choose to do one session or both.  However to be proficient, please plan on the entire season of 8 months.

Registration for Session One is from February 18 - April 1 .  Registration for Session Two begins in February if you select the two session payment plan.  Otherwise registration for fall is from  August 5-September 30.  Please complete Ballroom, Etiquette, Leadership (BEL) application by selecting the Admission Form (listed in the navigation bar above).

When the online form is complete please print two copies before hitting send (the information will be sent electronically).  Mail the second copy to the Witherspoon Institute, 5 Thane Street, Boston, MA 02124-1911 along with full tuition or deposit (see optional payment plan).  You may also pay on line with a major credit card.  See the Witherspoon Online strore for purchase.

Orientation for Session One will be held  Saturday, April 2, 10am - 2pm at the Roxbury Boys and Girls Club, Boston, MA.  Two formats will be used.  In Session One: 1 two hour dance class held once a week.  A companion monthly workshop in leadership and etiquette will be conducted from April through August.  Session One will conclude with a performance on August 26.

Orientation for Session Two will be held on October 1 .  The 12- week course hosts 3 dance classes a week and 1 class each in etiquette and leadership. See outline below.  The season ends  December 16, 17,18 with the Witherspoon Youth Conference featuring Red Carpet Movie Premiere, Tea Party, Kids Disco and the Children's Ball.

Events this season are fundraising activities to support relief efforts for orphans from the Earthquake torn island of Haiti.  There are over 100,000 orphans in need.  Witherspoon is doing its part with the American Alabaster Quilt for Haiti, a 5 year quilt project begun last year with the help of Simon Malls.  American children help children of Haiti. In keeping with our classroom efforts from which the quilt sprung our motto is "Raise your hand for Haiti."  This program is part of Witherspoon's Strategic Leadership Investment Plan (SLIP) taught throughout the year as part of a leadership, etiquette and ballroom dance curriculum for children 7-18 years old taught at the Witherspoon Institute.  It focuses on coupling youth with adult participation in global and community problem solving.  Currently, the quilting bee is traveling across the country on a 'Magic Quilt Tour’ gathering messages of hope.  The participatory ‘Folk Art’ exhibition made by the citizens of America is a reminder to Haiti that America cares.  Please see Quilting Bee section for more details.

Enrollment priority is given to siblings of scholars who have attended WIN.  The Witherspoon Institute does not discriminate on the basis of race/ethnicity.  Please see full inclusion policy below.
