The Oasis Institute Foundation is a non-profit humanitarian organization specifically created to improve the conditions of Haiti’s orphaned children. The banner of educational standards must be raised as high as possible to create a better Haiti. Our efforts must start with the children.
Since the devastating earthquake in Haiti on January 12, 2010, the children of Port-au-Prince and outlying areas are at great risk. Some experts estimate up to 100,000 children were left orphaned. To face our nation's new and ongoing challenges, a group of concerned community leaders and Haitian professionals have launched the Oasis Institute initiative.
The Oasis Institute has been developed to house, educate and care for hundreds of orphans, many of whom are now living on the streets, through a new, holistic Haiti-based approach to adoption.
So many people -- from around the world -- have expressed their concern for Haiti's orphans while acknowledging their inability to adopt and bring a child into their homes. Our country also faces decades of reconstruction and growth, which will benefit from the continued presence of Haiti's best educated children and young people. To address these related concerns, the Oasis Institute will establish a boarding school, funded by individuals who would “adopt a child at a distance,” as well as organizations in Haiti and abroad.
